Ronahî: Kurdish politician and former mayor of Diyarbakir Mehdi Zana lost his life.

Ronahî: Zana was being treated for COPD in a private hospital in Diyarbakir, in the intensive care unit. It was reported that his body will be buried tomorrow at the Yenikoy Cemetery in the Rezan neighborhood of Diyarbakir.

Kamîran: A name long present in Kurdish politics. The burial will take place tomorrow, which means ceremonies will gather today and tomorrow in Diyarbakir.

Ronahî: Yes, according to reports the burial will take place tomorrow at the same cemetery.

Ronahî: On the Nepal-Tibet border the number of people who lost their lives in the flood disaster has reached six hundred seventy-six.

Ronahî: This flood occurred on Wednesday in the Himalayas, near the border area. Nepal’s Disaster Agency reported that six hundred sixty-nine people lost their lives within the country alone, and search operations for the missing entered their fourth day today.

Kamîran: We also spoke about this disaster yesterday, when the number was not yet this high. That means the figure is still rising.

Ronahî: That is correct. Because the search is still ongoing and many people remain missing, it is possible that the number will rise further.

Kamîran: From the Himalayas we turn to the war in Ukraine, where both sides are trading fire today.

Ronahî: Ukraine carried out a drone attack on Russia’s Belgorod region. As a result three people lost their lives and nine were wounded. Regional authorities reported this on their platforms but provided no details on the damage or the targeted locations.

Ronahî: On the other side, a Russian drone attack targeted a warehouse near the capital Kyiv. At least six people were wounded and more than two hundred people, including children, were evacuated. The attack took place on Friday evening in the village of Maila in the Bucha region, and a large fire broke out.

Kamîran: Two reciprocal attacks on the same day. Ukraine mentioned the opening of an investigation into the storage of explosives in that warehouse, did it not?

Ronahî: Yes, Ukrainian authorities reported that they opened an investigation into why explosives had been stored in that warehouse.

Ronahî: According to an Iranian human-rights organization, at least twenty-eight people were executed in Iran last week, ninety-nine citizens were arrested, and pressure on students and labor demonstrations was tightened.

Kamîran: These figures cover only one week. How confident is the organization that all of these executions have been officially reported?

Ronahî: These figures come from the organization’s own information, and we do not know how many have been officially confirmed. At the same time it is reported that several days ago the lawyer named Raziye Hashemi, from Abdanan, was detained and taken to an unknown location. Her family says they still have no information about her fate and are concerned.

Kamîran: That detention together with those figures paints a heavy picture of one week.

Kamîran: In Syria the security issue returned to the agenda today as well, this time through the Israeli prime minister.

Ronahî: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has established a “security belt” in Syria and warned against the expansion of Turkish forces southward. This statement came after Israeli strikes on the Abu Zuhur military airfield in the Idlib countryside.

Kamîran: Yesterday we also spoke about Israel’s “security belt.” Today Netanyahu names Turkey directly, saying its military presence in northern Syria must not expand further.

Ronahî: Yes, Netanyahu stated that Turkey is now present in northern Syria and that Israel opposes any further military expansion of that presence inside Syrian territory.

Ronahî: In Gaza, the Israeli army announced that it targeted a Hamas commander at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza. Israel stated, however, that his death has not yet been confirmed.

Ronahî: Separately, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that three people lost their lives in the Israeli attacks.

Kamîran: So the targeting of the commander is still unconfirmed, while the civilian death toll has been reported by the ministry.

Ronahî: That is correct; the two pieces of information come from two different sides: the targeting from the Israeli army and the death toll from the Gaza Health Ministry.
