Kamîran: Yesterday we discussed the debate over Kurdish-language classes; today it is no longer just a debate, people have taken to the streets. In several cities at the same time, is that right?

Ronahî: Yes. In Dirbêsiyê, in Hesekê and in Qamişloyê, mass demonstrations took place. The issue is the same everywhere: the decision of the Transitional Government of Syria’s Ministry of Education that sets Kurdish-language classes at only three hours per week and treats it as an elective language.

Ronahî: In Hesekê people marched from the Sînalko roundabout to the Kevok roundabout with banners reading “Life is impossible without language” and “Language is our existence.” The march turned into a rally there and a minute of silence was observed.

Kamîran: Those same slogans appeared in Dirbêsiyê as well, if I remember correctly.

Ronahî: That is correct. In Dirbêsiyê teachers, members of civil-society organisations, security forces and representatives of youth and women’s movements took part in the demonstration. They too had started from Women’s Square with the same slogan, “Life is impossible without language.”

Ronahî: According to intellectuals and writers, the decision is linked to number two thousand sixty-eight of nine hundred sixty-four, and their demand is that the decision be corrected and that the Kurdish language be recognised in the new constitution as an official language of Syria.

Kamîran: What is their argument — why are three hours not enough?

Ronahî: Demonstrator Mihemed Heyder says three hours a week does not reflect the Kurdish people or the sacrifices that have been made. Intellectuals also point out that after the chauvinist practices of the previous regime against the Kurdish language and culture, this decision does not respond to the Kurdish people’s demands.

Kamîran: And from East Kurdistan there is a report that distresses one.

Ronahî: In the city of Sine, on the main Sine-Hemedan road, a fuel tanker exploded.

Ronahî: As a result of the explosion, thirteen people, including women and children, lost their lives.

Kamîran: Thirteen people… Has anything been established about the cause of the explosion?

Ronahî: Official information about the cause has not yet been released. It is only known that firefighting teams reached the scene of the incident immediately.

Kamîran: In the region, the Israeli army was active on two fronts today — both in southern Lebanon and in Syria.

Ronahî: In Lebanon, in the area of the town of El Mensûrî in the Sur district, more than fourteen demolition operations were carried out. According to reports, Israeli drones dropped barrels full of explosives in the area with the aim of destroying homes and infrastructure.

Ronahî: On the Syrian side as well, Israeli forces shelled the area around the town of El Refîd in the southern countryside of Quneytra with seven howitzer shells, and also the area around the town of Beyt El Cin west of Damascus. No information has been obtained about the damage from the Quneytra shelling; on the Damascus side there were no material or human casualties.

Kamîran: For several days now this has become a pattern. Is there an overall figure?

Ronahî: According to a monitor, the Israeli army has carried out more than six hundred attacks on Syria since the beginning of this year. At the same time, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel is opposed to the establishment of Turkish military bases in Syria, and said that this issue is a red line.

Kamîran: Let us move on to a larger diplomatic story. An important meeting took place in Moscow today.

Ronahî: U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow today and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The aim was to strengthen diplomatic efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Ronahî: At the start of the meeting Putin stated that Moscow is ready to present its view on the situation and praised Trump’s efforts to resolve the disputes.

Kamîran: And it is being said that Putin also declared a ceasefire in this process.

Ronahî: Yes, according to reports Putin halted attacks for three days. But we should note that this is so far the Russian side’s account; no concrete outcomes from the meeting have yet been announced.

Kamîran: Inside Syria as well, the past twenty-four hours did not pass without incident.

Ronahî: In the western countryside of Hums, a young man named Silêman Kamel Salim was abducted from his workplace, taken to a public road and shot dead. Prior to that, an attempt had also been made on the life of another person named Şewket El Mihemed.

Ronahî: Likewise, in the eastern countryside of Heleb a child lost their life as a result of an explosion of war remnants, and in the countryside of Efrîn an armed clash broke out between two groups affiliated with Syria’s Ministry of Defence.

Kamîran: This clash occurred between two groups affiliated with the same ministry — that in itself illustrates the situation.

Ronahî: Indeed. And in this situation, in Qamişloyê people also took to the streets for another reason: dozens marched against rising prices in the market, demanded solutions to economic problems, fuel and electricity, and also the establishment of a transitional justice system.
