Israeli military movements increase in southern Syria and an attack on a school in Istanbul.
Israeli military movements in southern Syria
Kamîran: Yesterday we spoke about shelling in Quneitra. Today we have a broader picture.
Ronahî: According to a report, in September more than ninety-seven incursions and Israeli military movements were recorded in Syrian territory. In the same month forty-six temporary checkpoints were set up, nine people were detained and nineteen artillery strikes were carried out.
Ronahî: Most of these incidents took place in Quneitra and in the Yarmouk basin in the countryside of Daraa. Some of them extended as far as the outskirts of Damascus.
Kamîran: In other words, this is no longer just the border region. It is also getting close to the capital.
Ronahî: Today’s incident also fits the same pattern. According to local residents, an Israeli force made up of two tanks and three vehicles entered the armoured-vehicle base in the southern countryside of Quneitra and is still there. At the same time reconnaissance aircraft flew over many areas of Daraa province.
Eight students stabbed in Istanbul
Kamîran: Now let us move to Turkey. We have a serious report from a school.
Ronahî: In Istanbul’s Başakşehir district, a knife attack took place at a school and eight female students were injured. The attack occurred around eight forty in the morning.
Ronahî: Police arrested the attacker. He is a fifteen-year-old tenth-grade student who attends another school. Turkey’s Minister of Health, Kemal Memişoğlu, also shared information on the condition of the injured on the platform X.
Kamîran: So the attacker came from outside that school. The motive for the attack is not mentioned in the reports.
Afrin and Aleppo students seek a solution
Kamîran: There is another school-related problem, this time in Afrin.
Ronahî: Dozens of students from Afrin and Aleppo who previously attended schools run by the Autonomous Administration held a protest today in the city of Afrin. They issued a statement against being sidelined and called for their situation to be resolved.
Ronahî: Nearly two months have passed since the start of the academic year, yet the status of these students and their teachers remains unclear.
Kamîran: This is linked to the demand for education in Kurdish, which we also discussed yesterday.
Ronahî: Yes, the same demand continues in Derik as well. The Derik Education Directorate issued a statement today with the participation of teachers. Teachers Khada Berav and Abdulkarim Hemo read the statement. It said that language is an inherent right of all peoples and that its loss also means the loss of part of one’s identity. The Syrian Human Rights Federation also stated that the right to mother-tongue education for all peoples of Syria must be guaranteed in the constitution.
Turkish base in Tel Tamir blocks residents’ return
Ronahî: Residents of the village of Menakh in the countryside of Tel Tamir want to return to their homes, but a Turkish military base in the village prevents them from entering. They have been told that the area is a military zone and that approaching it is prohibited.
Ronahî: The residents said they wanted to return and check on their properties.
Kamîran: We should note that this information comes from statements by the residents. No position from the Turkish side has been reported.
Two people lost their lives in shooting incidents in Aleppo
Ronahî: In the Kelas street of Aleppo’s Suleimaniya district, a man on a motorcycle fired at the owner of a chicken shop. The shop owner lost his life from serious injuries. The identity of the attacker and the motive for the attack have not yet been established.
Ronahî: In the Nairab district a young man also lost his life in his car from attackers’ gunfire.
Kamîran: Two separate incidents in the same city, and in both cases the attackers remain unidentified.
Tree felling in Duhok reaches the Iraqi parliament’s agenda
Kamîran: Briefly, another report from Iraq.
Ronahî: Iraqi parliamentarian Ghalib Muhammad announced that sixty parliamentarians have signed an official letter and submitted it to the Speaker of the Parliament. They want the felling of trees in the border areas of Duhok province by Turkish forces to be discussed in the next session.
Kamîran: This is the view of the parliamentarians. No response from Turkey on this matter has been reported.
