Unrest in the Xiwêran neighbourhood of Hasakah

0:26

Kamîran: Yesterday we spoke about the attack on a PYD office in Hasakah. Today the agenda is again Hasakah, but this time the Xiwêran neighbourhood.

Ronahî: On Tuesday in Xiwêran images of fighters who lost their lives and Kurdish symbols were defaced. According to residents of Hasakah, protests are staged in this neighbourhood especially on Fridays after the prayer. They also say that this week and last week vehicles passing through Xiwêran came under attack.

Ronahî: After this, demonstrations were held in the towns and districts of the Jazira region. Kongra Star, the PYD and the Revolutionary Youth Movement condemned the incident. In Qamishlo a statement was read in Arabic. The Kurdish-language teacher Rojîn Mihemed Mûsa and Ronaz Îbrahîm read it.

Kamîran: The statement was read in Arabic. It seems the message was addressed not only to Kurds but also to the Arab neighbours in the neighbourhood.

Ronahî: In Hasakah residents also made a call. They asked tribal elders, religious figures and families to step in and prevent disorder.

Ronahî: In the same neighbourhood, in the Seken Şebabî area, a young man lost his life at the hands of unidentified persons. The Internal Security Forces have begun an investigation.

Kamîran: We should also make clear that the reports contain no information linking this death to the defaced images. The two events simply took place in the same neighbourhood.

Iran: Werîşe Mûradî and artist Jîna Ehmedî

1:48

Kamîran: Let us move on to Iran. Yesterday we said that the death sentence for Werîşe Mûradî had been handed down once again. Today reactions to this decision are coming in.

Ronahî: The Free Women of Rojhilat Kurdistan Association, of which Mûradî is a member, issued a statement saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for her life. The decision was handed down by branch fifteen of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. The head of the branch is Ebulqasim Selavatî and the charge is membership in an armed rebel group. Mûradî is now being held in the women’s section of Evin prison.

Kamîran: This charge comes from the court and the statement comes from the association. Have Iranian officials said anything about this statement?

Ronahî: Today’s reports contain only these two sides: the court’s decision and the association’s statement. There is no response from Iranian officials to the statement.

Ronahî: There is another case. Artist Jîna Ehmedî, known as Jîlemo and from the village of Nigil near Merîwan, was detained at her home in Merîwan by Iranian forces. She was taken to the women’s section of the Central Prison of Sine. Ten days have passed since her detention and it is still not known what has happened to her.

Reactions against the reduction of Kurdish lessons

2:57

Ronahî: Yesterday we reported women’s protest in Dirbêsiyê. Today reactions against the Syrian transitional government’s decision are continuing. According to this decision, Kurdish lessons in schools will be held only three times a week.

Ronahî: The co-chair of the Democratic Culture and Art Movement of Mesopotamia, Sumeya Mihemed, said that language and culture cannot be separated. She pledged that they would protect the Kurdish language through culture.

Kamîran: In other words, even if lessons at school are reduced, they want the language to live on in another sphere.

Two explosions in Syria: Deir ez-Zor and Aleppo

3:28

Kamîran: There are two more explosions in Syria. The cause of both is still unknown.

Ronahî: According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a gas pipeline exploded in the Humer Tawîl area north of Deir ez-Zor near the Khurafi road. According to the Observatory’s initial estimates, the pipeline was blown up by unidentified persons. No information has been given about the consequences of the explosion.

Ronahî: In southern Aleppo, in the Îs area, local sources reported the sound of explosions. A large explosion is visible in videos on the internet, but neither the cause nor the consequences are yet clear.

Kamîran: Details of both incidents come from one observatory and from local sources. No other party has confirmed them yet.

Mîhraç Ural detained in Syria

4:11

Ronahî: According to the official Syrian news agency, Mîhraç Ural, also known as Elî Kiyalî, has been detained in Syria.

Kamîran: His name has been on the agenda for some time. Why has this detention come now?

Ronahî: This detention is linked to a series of events. On the fourth of October the Syrian Ministry of the Interior announced that Ural’s assistant, Cemal Trablûsî, had been detained. Today it is Ural’s turn, after nearly two weeks.

Flooding in Istanbul kills two

4:39

Ronahî: For two days rain has been falling continuously in Istanbul and many neighbourhoods are under water. The lack of green spaces and the heavy load on the city’s infrastructure cause the water to be unable to drain.

Ronahî: In this flood at least two people lost their lives.

Kamîran: And it may not be over yet.

Ronahî: Yes. According to the Emergency Situations Coordination Centre, heavy rain is also expected over the city tomorrow.
