Protests in France: detentions and clashes

0:25

Ronahî: The protests began on the seventh of October. The demonstrators' demands were the protection of the future of young people, social services and changes in taxes, but at their core is discontent over rising living costs.

Ronahî: According to the Ministry of the Interior, nearly eight hundred thousand people took to the streets. In Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes and Nice, some factories were damaged and in Limoges the city hall building caught fire.

Kamîran: So it is not one or two cities, clashes have broken out across the entire country. And the price is high.

Ronahî: Yes. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that nearly one thousand two hundred people were detained and at least one hundred fifty police officers and gendarmes were injured. Reports do not give the number of injured demonstrators, so the picture is still coming from official sources.

Iran: the death sentence of Werishe Muradi and the attack in Meriwan

1:15

Kamîran: We move from Europe to Iran, where there are two pieces of news from there today.

Ronahî: The first concerns the Kurdish politician Werishe Muradi.

Ronahî: The Iranian regime issued the death sentence against her for the second time.

Ronahî: The KJK Coordination issued a written statement condemning this decision and called on women to organise and show solidarity against the policy of executions. Iranian officials have made no comment on this decision in the reports.

Kamîran: The second piece of news comes from the Meriwan region.

Ronahî: According to a local source, at half past six in the morning the Melî plain near the village of Gewêle was targeted by two suicide drones, then shelled with mortars for nearly forty minutes. This information comes from only one source and so far there is no clear information about casualties.

Displaced people from Serêkaniyê: the sixth convoy sets off on Wednesday

2:05

Kamîran: Yesterday we spoke about the displaced people of Serêkaniyê who want to return before winter; today there are two developments, one swift, one impatient.

Ronahî: The sixth convoy will set off from the camps on Wednesday towards the countryside of Serêkaniyê, Til Temir and Zirgan. It is expected that more than six hundred families will be in it. In addition, nearly one hundred fifteen families from Serêkaniyê living in the city of Hesekê will return to their areas.

Ronahî: But before that, on Sunday, dozens of displaced people demonstrated at the Washokani camp and demanded that their return be faster. The reason is the worsening living situation, especially after humanitarian organisations' aid was halted and basic services became scarce.

Kamîran: So six hundred families are leaving, but those remaining in the camps still face shortages.

The Kurdish language: from criticism to a constitutional initiative

2:54

Ronahî: The decision of the Ministry of Education of the Syrian interim government limiting Kurdish lessons to only three weekly classes is still drawing reactions. Intellectuals and writers say language is identity and cannot be reduced to a few hours of instruction.

Kamîran: Beyond reactions, today there is something new.

Ronahî: Yes, in Qamishlo an initiative was announced that aims to give the Kurdish language a place in the constitution and have it officially recognised in Syria. Teachers, students, intellectuals, legal experts, journalists and artists took part.

Two new killings in Syria

3:28

Kamîran: The number of killings in Syria that we mentioned yesterday has increased today with two more incidents.

Ronahî: In Homs, around Welidê, a man lost his life in front of his home. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, unidentified gunmen arrived in a car, said they wanted to buy petrol from his shop in front of the house, then fired many shots at him.

Ronahî: In Dashisha, Eid Hamid, nearly sixty years old, a member of the Buheswnî branch of the Jabbur tribe, also lost his life in his bed after unidentified people entered his house. The motive for the killing and the circumstances are unknown.

Kamîran: In both incidents the perpetrators are unknown and no one knows why.
