Ronahî: The fire broke out on Saturday, close to two o'clock in the morning, at the Kobanê prison. A young man named Ehmed Eqîl, who had been injured, lost his life despite the efforts of doctors, bringing the death toll to nine.

Ronahî: Treatment of the remaining injured continues in hospital. The city administration declared two days of mourning; from early morning shops and commercial premises, especially in the central market, were closed and all activity across the city came to a halt.

Kamîran: So an entire city has stopped – that image of collective mourning itself becomes a response to the event.

Ronahî: Yes. And this cannot be separated from another incident: after the death of Sîpan Hiznî, a fighter with the Hesekê Brigade, and the circulation of images from it, mass demonstrations took place in many towns across northern and eastern Syria. We mentioned it yesterday; today the new development is this: seventeen young people who had been detained during the two-day protests in Kobanê by security forces linked to the interim government and transferred to Aleppo have been released.

Kamîran: On the political side, several institutions issued statements.

Ronahî: The Executive Council of the Kurdistan National Congress called for an objective investigation and accountability of those responsible. The co-presidency of the KCK Executive Council offered condolences to the families and urged the Damascus government to refrain from such approaches. It must be noted that no official independent inquiry into the cause of the fire has been announced so far.

Ronahî: In Girkê Legê residents also held a torch-lit march, a minute of silence was observed, and Eyhan Murad spoke on behalf of the city's People's Initiative.

Kamîran: Let us move to another file coming from Turkey.

Ronahî: The DEM Party delegation – members of parliament Pervîn Buldan and Mîthat Sancar together with lawyer Faîk Ozgur Erol – has returned from Imralı island after a meeting with Abdullah Ocalan.

Kamîran: The content of the meeting is still unclear, is that right?

Ronahî: Correct. The delegation itself is expected to issue a statement on the details of the meeting; until then there is no official information on the content.

Ronahî: In Hesekê province student actions for the Kurdish language began on the sixth of September and continue. Students from Girkê Legê, the town of Rimêlan and surrounding villages have not attended school for six days.

Ronahî: In Dêrik the sit-in that began on the tenth of September in front of Yûsif El Ezma school is now in its fourth day. In Hesekê city students and teachers gathered at Ibn Rişd school, carrying placards such as "The Kurdish language is our existence."

Kamîran: All of these go back to the same decision – the one we also discussed yesterday.

Ronahî: Yes, the decision of the interim government's Ministry of Education dated the twenty-seventh of August two thousand twenty-six, which limits the teaching of Kurdish to a few hours a week. The demonstrators demand official and constitutional recognition of the Kurdish language and mother-tongue education.

Ronahî: The Sinjar People's Council also issued a statement saying that a democratic Syria can only have stability by accepting all components.

Kamîran: There was also a diplomatic meeting in Damascus today.

Ronahî: The interim government's Foreign Minister Eseed El Şeybanî and Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met in Damascus. Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and activating joint high-level committees on political, economic and security matters.

Ronahî: They later held a joint press conference at Tişrîn Palace.

Kamîran: This meeting comes in the same week that protests continue in the north and east of the country – two tracks moving together.

Ronahî: The General Directorate of Security Operations in Silêmanî announced that in the past ninety-six hours, in cooperation with Helebce provincial security, twenty-two people linked to DAIŞ have been detained.

Kamîran: By judicial order, not only a military operation.

Ronahî: Correct – according to the statement, on the order of the head of the regional security agency and by the decision of the investigating judge, under the second article of the anti-terror law. Two armed groups have been apprehended; no further details of the investigation have been released.
