Ronahî: The Command of the Internal Security Forces of Hasakah issued a statement about the attack on one of their patrols. According to the statement, two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the patrol this evening in front of Cordoba University on the Qamishli-Hasakah road.

Ronahî: A member of the facility protection forces lost their life in the attack. The patrol was escorting fuel tankers at the time.

Kamîran: So a patrol that protects tankers is targeted on a main road — this is not an attack on a fixed point, this is an attack on the road itself.

Ronahî: Correct. And what is important: so far no party has claimed responsibility for the attack. The identities of the two gunmen are also unknown, and the security forces have begun searching for them.

Kamîran: What we know comes only from security sources — let us keep that in mind.

Kamîran: This attack takes place in a region where the question of the missing is also serious. Ronahî, there was a statement about it today.

Ronahî: Yes. The Committees for the Defence of Democratic Freedoms and Human Rights in Syria, on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance, announced that two hundred and fifty-seven people have been documented as disappeared since the beginning of the year two thousand and twenty-six.

Ronahî: The committees stressed that the loss of contact and the uncertainty about the fate of these people is a clear threat to their lives, and they called on both governmental and non-governmental parties to disclose their fate.

Kamîran: Two hundred and fifty-seven people in less than nine months — and this is only the documented figure, not an estimate of the total.

Kamîran: Moving from Syria to Iran, there is also serious news there today.

Ronahî: In Mashhad Prison a twenty-three-year-old student, Najma Amini, was sentenced to death. Amini is one of the detainees from the protests and called from inside the prison: "Be my voice."

Kamîran: A message coming out from inside the prison — that in itself shows how alone she is.

Ronahî: And on the same day in Piranshahr a woman named Bayan Qaderi was arrested by the security forces. The reason for the arrest has not been disclosed.

Ronahî: Today marks the twenty-third anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Union Party. The party was founded in two thousand and three in a congress that lasted several days.

Ronahî: On this occasion events were held in Qamishli, Hasakah, Tal Tamir and Kobani, and the party’s representation in Sulaymaniyah also opened its doors to receive guests. The slogan of the events was: twenty-three years of struggle for the constitutional guarantee of Kurdish rights and the building of a democratic and pluralistic Syria.

Kamîran: And this anniversary comes this time before an extraordinary congress, as we understand it.

Ronahî: Yes, the party is preparing itself for an extraordinary congress. Member of the Relations Committee Berivan Muhammad stated that the party has played a historic role in the process in western Kurdistan — this is, of course, the party’s own assessment.

Kamîran: In southern Syria today there are two different events, yet they resemble each other.

Ronahî: The first: seven Israeli force vehicles entered the area of Tel Abu Qubays in the countryside of Quneitra and then withdrew via the Ain Ziwan-Qudna route. No clashes were reported. Also, the Bir Ajam forest west of the village of Zubayda was shelled with three shells; according to witnesses, no casualties occurred.

Ronahî: The second: near the Jandal fortress in the Jabal al-Sheikh area, west of the countryside of Damascus, explosions were heard. But the information does not match — according to a local source it is shelling, according to another source it is a force operation. Responsibility is unclear.

Kamîran: So in one area the ground situation is clear, in the other we still do not know what happened.

Ronahî: Exactly. What they have in common is that both areas are within ongoing military operations, and in the northern countryside of Daraa the flights of Israeli reconnaissance drones have increased.

Kamîran: Yesterday we spoke about the fuel crisis and daily living. Today that issue moved onto the streets.

Ronahî: Dozens of integrated health workers demonstrated in front of the Hasakah governorate building. They are demanding their salaries, which have not been paid for more than four months.

Ronahî: Also, residents of Hasakah are complaining about the rise in the price of fuel and basic necessities and are calling for the price decisions to be reconsidered.

Kamîran: And in Damascus, on the same issue, was anything said?

Ronahî: Energy Minister Muhammad al-Bashir presented the sector’s situation to parliament — oil and gas production, refining capacity and domestic demand. But in his speech he made no mention of any change in fuel prices.

Kamîran: And let us end with a commemoration.

Ronahî: Journalist and writer Musa Anter, who lost his life on the twentieth of September, nineteen hundred and ninety-two in the Cumhuriyet neighbourhood of Diyarbakır, was commemorated at his grave in the village of Sitilile in the Nusaybin district.

Ronahî: The commemoration was organised under the leadership of the Dicle Firat Journalists Association and MEYA-DER of Mardin. His son, Dicle Anter, was also present.

Kamîran: Thirty-four years have passed, and every year the grave fills up.
