Ronahî: Reactions continue against the decision by the Syrian transitional government’s Ministry of Education. The decision was taken on the twenty-seventh of August and limited mother-tongue Kurdish instruction to three class hours per week.

Ronahî: Today the Qamishli Educational Research Academy issued a statement in front of the UNHCR building with the participation of dozens of students and its own members. The statement said the right to mother-tongue education cannot be halved or reduced to three lessons.

Kamîran: In other words, the central point is not the number of hours; it is that this right is being measured by an administrative decision.

Ronahî: Correct. And the matter has not remained limited to Qamishli. The European Kurdish Women’s National Unity Platform also issued a statement saying language is a fundamental human right and called for Kurdish to be constitutionally guaranteed.

Ronahî: Tomorrow at eleven-thirty in the morning a large march will be held in front of the Qamishli city stadium. The call was made by the Jazira People’s Initiative, and participants are expected from Derik, Amuda, Dirbesiye, Til Temir and other districts of Hasaka.

Ronahî: and again today. Despite shop closures, dozens of residents gathered in the central market and, with banners, demanded solutions to problems of livelihood, electricity and services. The Syrian Federation of Human Rights Organizations also issued a statement calling on organizations to protect the right to peaceful protest.

Ronahî: In Hasaka province, widespread demonstrations took place after the death of Sami Sheikh Mous Hiso, a member of the Hasaka Brigade, known by the name Sipan Hezani.

Ronahî: According to reports, before losing his life he had been abducted by an armed group and taken to the village of Adlana near Serêkaniyê. The demonstrators strongly condemned the act.

Kamîran: And we still do not know who is responsible or whether an investigation is under way—this is a significant gap in the incident.

Ronahî: At the same time, the Hasaka Internal Security Forces Command announced that an attack occurred on a team from the Facilities Protection Forces on the Qamishli–Hasaka road near the Agricultural University.

Ronahî: According to the statement, two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at night and one member of the forces lost their life.

Kamîran: Two incidents in two days, both in the same region. A Syrian reformist movement also spoke about the situation, did it not?

Ronahî: Yes. It called for preventing these incidents from becoming a cause of national and sectarian division in the area.

Ronahî: The Israeli army shelled the surroundings of the villages of Abidin, Mariya and Arida in the Yarmouk Basin area west of Daraa. According to local sources, nearly seven artillery shells landed near a herd of goats and approximately fifteen goats were killed.

Kamîran: This time no civilian casualties have been reported, yet this is the same area we discussed yesterday in Quneitra.

Ronahî: Correct, and today in Quneitra an Israeli force with nearly nine military vehicles moved toward the area of Rasim al-Halabi village, where it established a checkpoint and searched civilians.

Ronahî: Earlier, Israeli forces released a shepherd they had detained in the countryside of Quneitra after several hours. The reason for the detention was not announced.

Kamîran: Two explosions were recorded today in Aleppo province.

Ronahî: The first occurred in the Industrial District of Manbij city east of Aleppo, and one person lost their life. The cause has not yet been clarified.

Ronahî: The second took place early this morning in the Al-Hadba area south of the province, near the village of Al-Eis. According to initial reports, at least four civilians were wounded, and the explosion is said to have occurred in a warehouse where ammunition had been stored.

Kamîran: So in both cases the cause has not yet been officially disclosed.

Ronahî: The Taliban administration announced that three civilians lost their lives and four people were wounded in an air strike by Pakistani fighter jets in Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan.

Kamîran: And when are we referring to?

Ronahî: The spokesperson for the Kunar Security Directorate, Farid Dehqan, said the strike took place on Monday at three-thirty in the Nurgal district. So far this information has been provided only by Afghan authorities.

Ronahî: Although water pumping from the Alouk station has resumed, many districts of Hasaka are still without water.

Kamîran: So the problem is no longer at the station; it is inside the city.

Ronahî: That appears to be the case. Residents say the damage in the pumping networks and water lines must be repaired. Mohammed al-Attiya, a resident of the Al-Nasra district, stated that the district is on higher ground and water does not reach them. The General Water Administration also announced that it is working on the issue.
