Three brothers wounded in Hasakah and a council centre set on fire, concern rises.
Three brothers wounded in Hasakah, a centre destroyed
Kamîran: Yesterday we already spoke about an attack in Hasakah. Today another report comes from the same city.
Ronahî: In Hasakah three Kurdish brothers came under attack from armed men. They were passing through the Sinaa district on their way home. Their names are Nazir Siraj Shekho, who is twenty years old, Mohammed Siraj Shekho, who is nineteen, and Diyar Siraj Shekho, who is sixteen.
Ronahî: Two of them were wounded by gunfire; the third was beaten. According to reports, all three are now in stable condition.
Ronahî: In Til Temir unknown persons also destroyed the council centre that represents the families of fighters who lost their life. They tore down the council’s name sign and set fire to the roof of the building.
Kamîran: So two incidents occurred in the same area, yet the people behind both remain unknown.
Ronahî: That is correct. Reports show no one has claimed responsibility for the incidents, and no link between them has been confirmed. Reactions, however, were swift. The council of the same organisation in Derbasiya condemned the attacks and called for the facts to be established and those responsible brought to justice. Kongra Star in Kobani also issued a statement. Nadia Hiso said that in recent days attempts have been made in Hasakah to sow discord.
Ronahî: Residents of Chil Agha also spoke of the burning of Kurdish symbols in Hasakah. According to them, these efforts to undermine stability are not new, and community support is the best way to defeat them.
Serêkaniyê convoy postponed until Tuesday
Kamîran: From Hasakah we move to the families displaced from Serêkaniyê. They were waiting for the fifth convoy.
Ronahî: The fifth convoy was due to depart on Monday. According to the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, it has been postponed until Tuesday. The reason is to complete preparations and secure vehicles for the families.
Ronahî: At the same time the United Nations refugee agency met with the families taking part in this convoy.
Kamîran: So it is delayed by only one day, and the cause is logistical.
Women’s delegation from the North and Mazlum Abdi
Ronahî: A delegation of women co-mayors from North Kurdistan who crossed into the west on the seventh of October met with Mazlum Abdi in Qamishli on Saturday. Abdi is an adviser to the president of Syria. The meeting discussed the integration process in Syria and the peace process in North Kurdistan and Turkey.
Ronahî: Today the delegation also met with Governor Nureddin Ahmed in Hasakah. Khalid Ibrahim, a member of the Executive Council, also attended the closed-door meeting. Afterwards the delegation visited the Women’s Protection Units. Devrim Demir, co-mayor of Mardin, is also part of the delegation.
Kamîran: All these meetings revolve around the topic of integration. Abdi himself also spoke on the same subject this week.
Ronahî: Yes. Abdi met with some residents of Derbasiya. He said this stage requires unity of forces and stronger cooperation so that integration succeeds and the gains achieved over more than fifteen years are protected.
Damascus–Baghdad highway closed at Dumayr
Kamîran: We now turn to the Damascus area, where people have taken to the road.
Ronahî: This morning in Dumayr protesters blocked the international Damascus–Baghdad highway by burning tyres. The reason for the protest is that the highway route has been changed and now passes through residential neighbourhoods.
Ronahî: According to a Syrian human-rights monitoring centre, protesters said they are worried about the increased traffic risk on the road.
Kamîran: It is worth noting that the complaint is not about the road itself but about the fact that it now runs through people’s homes.
Three shepherds detained in Quneitra
Ronahî: In the southern countryside of Quneitra an Israeli army patrol moved toward the area of the village of Sayda al-Joulan. According to local sources, the patrol detained three shepherds in the fields of Abu Mazra.
Kamîran: This information comes only from local sources.
Ronahî: That is so, and no comment has been issued by Israel. In another incident an Israeli patrol with three military vehicles also moved toward the valley beside the village of Abidin. This village lies in the Yarmouk basin area.
Mano Khalil preparing a new film on the Kurds of the west
Kamîran: We close the programme with a cultural story.
Ronahî: Kurdish director Mano Khalil announced that he wants to make a feature film on the history of the Kurds of the west. The film will begin with the burning of the Shahrazad Cinema in Amuda. It will then cover the exceptional census, land seizures and the Arab Belt project, and will end with the war against ISIS.
Kamîran: That is nearly a century of history that will be covered in one film.
