Armed attack on the Rojava FM crew in Hasakah

Kamîran: Yesterday we talked about the tensions in Hasakah. Today there is fresh news from there.

Ronahî: In the Salihiyah neighbourhood of Hasakah, an armed attack was carried out on the Rojava FM crew. A radio worker was wounded. He was taken to hospital, underwent surgery and is now in good condition.

Ronahî: The armed men also stole the crew's vehicle and took it to an unknown location. The Internal Security Forces have launched an investigation. So far it is not known who the attackers are.

Kamîran: This attack is not the only one. The atmosphere in the city is also heavy.

Ronahî: Yes. According to the Union of Intellectuals of Jazira, during a demonstration by residents of the Gweiran neighbourhood, attacks were carried out on public and private property and sectarian slogans were raised. According to the same statement, the Internal Security Forces dispersed the demonstrators with tear gas. The Union called for those responsible to be brought to trial.

Ronahî: Kongra Star also said that these incidents are not coincidental and coincided with the ninth anniversary of the fourth of October. It calls on everyone to act responsibly. It should be noted that these are all the views of one side; no voice from the residents of Gweiran themselves appears in the news.

Demonstrations against restrictions on Kurdish classes

Ronahî: The language issue also returned to the streets today. The Education Ministry of Syria's interim government has decided that Kurdish language classes will be limited to three lessons per week.

Ronahî: In Derbasiyah, dozens of young people and students marched from Women's Square to Kezi Square. The banners read: "Our language is our existence, we will not bargain over our existence."

Kamîran: So it is not only students, organisations have also entered the discussion.

Ronahî: That's right. Kongra Star issued a statement in Qamishli and said that the mother tongue is a fundamental part of identity and education in the mother tongue is a natural right.

Body of teacher Hesen Keleş identified

Ronahî: Hesen Keleş, the fifty-year-old philosophy teacher from Girkê Legê, was abducted from the city market in September by unknown persons.

Ronahî: His family announced that the body found on the second of October on the Derdaray road in the Til Koçer district is his. The people who abducted him have still not been identified.

Kamîran: It has not even been a month, and the family only now knows what happened to him.

Ronahî: It is expected that Keleş will be buried today in the village of Sêgirka Çolê.

Fifth convoy being prepared toward Serêkaniyê

Kamîran: Moving from Hasakah to another topic: the return of displaced persons, which we also discussed yesterday.

Ronahî: According to the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, the fifth convoy will leave the Serêkaniyê camp next Monday. Nearly four hundred families will return to their homes in Serêkaniyê, Til Temir and Zirgan.

Ronahî: The fourth convoy consisted of five hundred and eighteen families. So the next one is somewhat smaller.

Twelve people lost their lives in Zaporizhzhia

Ronahî: In Ukraine, twelve people lost their lives in a Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia, three of them children. Fourteen others were wounded.

Kamîran: At what time did the attack take place?

Ronahî: According to regional official Mykhailo Smikin, Russian forces targeted several areas of the city early in the morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said that five bombs struck buildings. This information comes from the Ukrainian side; no Russian response appears in the news.

More than two thousand executions in Iran in one year

Ronahî: On the occasion of World Day Against the Death Penalty, a human rights monitoring organisation announced that at least two thousand and thirty-three people were executed in Iran in the past year.

Kamîran: How does this figure compare with before?

Ronahî: According to the same organisation, it increased by one hundred and twenty-nine percent compared with the same period previously. The organisation says that executions are still being concealed, and executions for political and security reasons are increasing.

Victims of the Ankara train station remembered in Amed

Kamîran: And let us close with a remembrance.

Ronahî: On the tenth of October two thousand fifteen, tens of thousands of people gathered in front of the Ankara train station under the slogan "Against war, peace now." In the attack by two ISIS suicide bombers, one hundred and four people lost their lives and more than five hundred people were wounded.

Ronahî: The Amed Labour and Democracy Platform remembered the victims at the Amed Culture Hall in the New City district.
