Growing reaction against attacks on the displaced of Tell Abyad
Reactions against the attacks in Tell Abyad
Ronahî: Yesterday we spoke about the attack on the displaced families from Tell Abyad who wanted to return to their homes. Today the Democratic Council of Syria and the political parties issued statements and described this incident as a violation of the agreement of the twenty-ninth of January.
Ronahî: Residents in the cities of Qamishli and Tel Tamer also held marches and called on the transitional government to take responsibility for protecting the people.
Kamîran: After these attacks, is there any new information on the return of other families?
Ronahî: Yes, the return of the seventh convoy, which was supposed to bring more than eight hundred families from Ras al-Ayn back to their homes, has been postponed for an indefinite period. The reason for the postponement has not been officially announced.
Jordan and the tension in southern Syria
Kamîran: On another front, there are new security movements between Jordan and Syria.
Ronahî: The Jordanian government announced that after yesterday's air strikes in southern Syria, it is forming a joint committee. Amman says it targeted the bases linked to the attack on the church in Karak Governorate.
Ronahî: Despite these operations, the Nasib and Jaber border crossing between the two countries has been reopened for Syrian pilgrims and citizens returning to the country.
Education pressures and the demand for the Kurdish language
Ronahî: Students in the cities of Derik and Zirgan also took to the streets for the right to education in their mother tongue.
Ronahî: They rejected the transitional government's education ministry decision and demanded that the Kurdish language be recognised as an official language in Syria's new constitution.
Kamîran: These protests show that the transitional government's decisions are facing significant resistance on the ground.
Detention of a citizen in Iran
Ronahî: In Iran, pressure on activists also continues. A citizen named Nabi Sofi, originally from Saqqez, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison for his social media posts.
